There are really only two Covenants that are established by God. I had been taught and even taught myself that there are many covenants. The Adamic Covenant -- the Abrahamic Covenant -- the Noah Covenant etc. That isnít true. There are only two Covenants established by God.
The so-called Adamic -- Abrahamic -- Noah Covenants and all the rest are but one in the same Covenant. Itís called the Everlasting Covenant. It runs from eternity to eternity and all those that receive it become partakers of itsí blessings. Another name for the Everlasting Covenant is the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
(Gal 4:24 KJV) Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
(Gal 4:25 KJV) For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
These are the two Covenants: One is mount Sinai -- which is righteousness by the works of the laws of Moses; That would be righteousness by works. The other is what Jerusalem symbolizes which is righteousness by a gift. But the children of righteousness by a gift are still in bondage because they havenít received the rest of the Covenant which is -- multiplication by inheritance.
That was true in Paulís day and it is still true today. Jerusalem which is above is free because it has received multiplication by inheritance.
(Gal 4:26 KJV) But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. That is the mother of all of us that believe that Covenant.
The Truth Covenant is a Covenant of life. If we believe the Truth -- we are made righteous and are sentenced to eternal life. Remember -- the Truth is what God told Abraham that made him righteous. Remember also --that the Truth is what God told you that makes you righteous when you believe it.
If we believe the other Covenant of The Lie -- we become Sin and are sentenced to death.
God has established both Covenants. He has decreed that both Covenants are true and has decreed the penalty for both. Here are the penalties for both Covenants.
First -- The Covenant Of Life -- Rom 8:2 KJV) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
(John 8:51 KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
Second -- The Covenant Of Death -- (Gen 2:17 KJV) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
(Ezek 18:4 KJV) Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
The Truth is a Covenant of Life.
The Lie is a Covenant of death.
God has committed Himself to the Covenant of Truth and has adopted it for Himself. He has established that all that will believe the Covenant of The Truth will live with Him forever. By believing we mean: the person that commits themselves to that Covenant and lives by it in their actions; That means that we have submitted ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus the Christ over us.
He has also established that all of those that believe the Covenant of The Lie -- will become Sin and die. They will be separated from Him forever. God has determined that those that believe The Lie will be silenced so that they canít give their voice to The Lie. When The Lie canít be repeated it dies.
This all makes perfect sense but I must ask -- What about all the people that lived in the world before Abraham? What did they believe?
Well -- letís take this Covenant of The Truth back into the Garden of Eden and see what Adam and Eve believed.
(Gen 2:15 KJV) And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
(Gen 2:16 KJV) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
(Gen 2:17 KJV) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
So the Covenant that God had with Adam and Eve was that they were His children and that all of the garden was His gift for them to enjoy. They were righteous by a gift because they were the children of God and were made in Godís exact image.
They were blessed by a gift because they had done nothing to merit the blessings of God -- other than to believe what God told them was The Truth about themselves and their relationship with Him. They had eternal life so long as they believed what God had told them and all that they needed was theirs by a gift.
Well -- that is the Covenant of The Truth: Righteousness by a Gift and Blessings by Inheritance. So --they believed and received the same Covenant that Abraham believed and received. They believed the same Covenant you and I believe--righteousness is a gift and blessings are a gift.
Gifts and Inheritance
There needs to be an explanation as to the difference between a gift and a gift of inheritance. A person -- or God -- can give a gift just because it is theirs to give. If you receive it without trying to work for it you can receive it as a gift. The gift comes out of the life of the one that gives it because it is theirs to give.
A gift of inheritance comes to you when a person dies. The person that gives an inheritance has to die for you to get the gift. An inheritance costs the giver much more than just a gift would cost. An inheritance cost the giver his life.
So when we are talking about a gift or an inheritance -- they are sometimes used interchangeably because they are both gifts. They can come from the same giver but in the case of an inheritance -- that gift requires the giver to lay down their life.
So with Adam and Eve -- the Garden of Eden was a gift to them because there was no Sin in the world that required the death of the giver. However -- as soon as Sin came into the Garden of Eden -- the shedding of blood became a requirement to give Adam and Eve back what they had lost.
Their relationship with God was restored when the promise of a redeemer was revealed by the slaying of the lamb. However -- the Garden of Eden was a gift without the shedding of blood and that will not be repeated by God. Ever since the Cross and by promise of the Cross all of Godís gifts come to us by inheritance and that means that the Lord had to pay with His life to give them to us and they are the only kind of gifts given in the Kingdom of God that last forever. It also means that we-- as born again sons of God --must also die to our own ways to receive the gifts.
When God gave Adam and Eve the gift of life and the gift of the Garden of Eden-- it didnít cost God anything to do that. He gave it to them out of his life of abundance. God warned them that they were not to listen to anyone that told them anything different -- because anything that was different from what God had said-- would be a Lie. If they were to listen to The Lie and believe it -- the sentence was death.
We need to understand the subtleness of the decision to believe The Lie. When Adam and Eve looked at the fruit of the tree the day before they decided to disobey God -- the fruit was Godís gift to them and they received it as a gift of love to them from their God.
The day of their disobedience they looked at that same fruit on that same tree and believed that the fruit would make them their own god if they ate it. So --they received that fruit from the voice of another god which told them a Lie because that other god said it would not kill them if they believed what he said.
All that happened within them was they believed The Lie and not The Truth. When that happened -- everything changed. When they ate from the tree-- they entered another world; The world of The Lie that we can be our own god and be blessed and we wonít die.
You may say Ė but the Scriptures say there were two trees in the Garden of Eden. The Tree of Life and the Tree of Good and Evil. Yes-- there was-- but they were the same tree. What we believe when we eat determines what kind of a tree we are eating from. If we believe God when we eat Ė we are eating from the Truth as God tells it; If we believe The Lie we are eating from the tree of death to what God has told us is the Truth.
That is why The Lie is so subtle. You canít tell what Kingdom you are in by observation only. The outward actions are the same Ė itís what Iím believing when I do a thing that makes it the fruit of the Kingdom of God or the kingdoms of the world.
So then-- the Everlasting Covenant of righteousness by a gift and blessings by inheritance is the same Covenant that was given to Adam -- Abraham and to us who believe God. There is only one Covenant of Truth and one Covenant of death. They are eternal Covenants and whenever we believe what either one of those Covenants say -- we enter the realm of that Covenant that we believe and then we have to eat the fruit of what that Covenant gives.
(Rom 16:25 KJV) Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
(Rom 16:26 KJV) But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
